A group of mathematics and statistics students at UR–CST that started meeting every week — and turned into an association.
MSAR brings together mathematics and statistics students at the University of Rwanda’s College of Science and Technology. What began in 2022 as regular peer sessions among statistics students has grown into a full programme of weekly sessions, practical training, and guest talks that runs through the academic year.
The constant has been simple: students showing up, week after week, to learn from each other and from people already working in the field.
It started with a few of us in statistics who just enjoyed meeting up to have fun with maths. We played games, tried puzzles, and solved questions together, with no pressure and nothing official about it. Then students from other years began joining, and it became clear that a lot of people wanted a place where maths felt enjoyable.
I wanted MSAR to be a place where mathematics and statistics students support each other, build skills they can use after graduation, and see how these subjects are applied in real jobs. My hope is that it grows into the community Rwandan mathematicians and statisticians are proud to have come from.

A look back at the moments — big and small — that got us here.
